 Montair Tablets - Product Information

Montair is used to prevent asthma symptoms, including those that occur during the day and at night-time. It also prevents the narrowing of airways triggered by exercise.

It can be used in children 2 years of age and older, teenagers and adults.

Montair tablets are not used to treat an acute attack of asthma. If an acute attack occurs, follow your doctor's instructions for your reliever medicine, and keep taking your Montair each night or as prescribed.

As a preventive medicine, Montair can be used alone or in combination with other preventive medicines, such as inhaled corticosteroids. Your doctor may reduce your dose of inhaled corticosteroid while you are taking Montair.

Montair is also used to treat allergy symptoms. Montelukast works by blocking substances in the body called leukotrienes. Blocking leukotrienes improves asthma and seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis symptoms.

Precautions

Before taking Montair,

  • tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to montelukast or any other drugs.
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially phenobarbital (Solfoton), rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane), and vitamins.
  • tell your doctor if you have or have ever had phenylketonuria or liver disease.
  • tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking montelukast, call your doctor.

Contact your doctor promptly if your short-acting inhaler use increases or if use exceeds the 24-hour maximum prescribed by the doctor.

Do not stop using this medicine, or other asthma medicines, without first checking with your doctor.

Keep all doctor and laboratory appointments while you are using this medicine. Laboratory and/or medical tests should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more information. Before you begin taking any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
